Thoughts for Nov, 2007

Well, that's her plan anyway. We'll miss her. Here's some photos from her farewell concert the other night.

Working on my close-up isolation technique today (pure white background). This is a small spider, not tiny, but no pet tarantula.

It's breeding time for my pet alien jellyfish. This is the most spectacular event, but it only happens every three years. Pretty cool eh?

In the world of photographic lighting, there is no beast more mythical and praised than the Chimera. Their slogan ("Perfect Lighting") holds the bar pretty high, but just looking at their products, one can tell they're made with quality in mind.
Today, a knock on the door brought a new baby Chimera into my world. It's only 16"x12" but is exactly what I had in mind. Along with the speedlight bracket I ordered alongside, it makes a very portable solution for lighting portraits and macro stuff.
Here's a shot of Ocean with the new gemmer.

I've never been able to easily take great looking isolated shots of products. My whites were always gray or pinkish and the lighting just never looked right. Well ... until now. This lighting was achieved with a 46" diameter octagonal softbox right above the items and a curved piece of white laminate below. The peppers I grew myself too. That is, my automated greenhouse grew them anyway.
