Thoughts for Aug, 2007

Yesterday in my greenhouse, much to my surprise, I found a thriving colony of aphids among the hot pepper plants. My first thought was to try to rinse the little buggers off and I did, but upon researching the remedy further I came upon the ladybug solution.
There's a company in my area called The Bug Factory that raises and markets all kinds of beneficial insects for garden pests. Luckily for me, the Ladybugs from The Bug Factory are readily available at a store I pass on my daily walks. So for $10 I netted myself a cool 250 ladybugs - my little army.
Here's a shot of them at work.

Today, in mid-August (notoriously the hottest part of the summer), I am wearing jeans. Now that might not seem peculiar to you if you lived in say, Nunavut or Alaska. But for those of us who live on Vancouver Island, it's downright crazy.
Today there is sun though. Taking advantage of the presence of some descent light for macro work, I took some shots of my parents' garden.

This weekend, my girls and I went on an adventure to Lasqueti Island as VIPs for a big musical event called 'Lasqueti Escape'. The escape was two music-filled days on a chunk of Lasqueti forest that had been transformed into an awesome hangout for large groups of people complete with swimming 'pond', mansion, stage and camping area. Too much fun, really.
